Gestational Surrogacy and Traditional Surrogacy

Posted by: Santa Monica Fertility   •   Categories: Trying to Conceive,

Surrogacy is when one woman carries a child for an intended parent. What is the difference between gestational surrogacy and traditional surrogacy? Gestational surrogacy (or full surrogacy) is when a woman carries the intended parent;s child via IVF, or in vitro fertilization. Traditional surrogacy (or partial surrogacy) the mother conceives naturally or through IVF.

Many women who have a history of trying to conceive (TTC) but have not been successful due to uterine issues (such as fibroids, adhesions or asherman’s syndrome) decide to use surrogates in order to have their child, and it is becoming more and more common in the U.S. to do this via gestational  surrogacy.

If you suspect you have uterine factor infertility or have questions about using a surrogate in the future, please call Santa Monica Fertility with any questions you have. We are always here to help you on your journey to parenthood.
