This has the potential to increase the success rates of IVF in older women, women over 30-35 years old, as far as 75%. Depending on how far back your biology glasses, you may remember that mitochondria are the powerhouses of the cells, some containing thousands, and some contain none. In this case, hundreds will be involved.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-link__arrow\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-link__arrow\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-link__arrow\">The research out of Oxford might be onto something. If scientists can carefully take a few cells out of the embryo to test and see how many mitochondrial DNA are in the cell, they will have more information to work with, such as whether the embryo will have a good chance of making it or not. If it&#8217;s above a certain number, it likely will not result in a viable pregnancy.
